France's hottest June on record split retail in two. City centres lost 9% of footfall, malls held flat.

France just lived through its hottest June since 1947, with Paris hitting 40.6°C and more than 40% of the country crossing 40°C. We measured what that did to footfall across 200 major retail locations, and the answer isn't as simple as "footfall dropped."

City centres and shopping malls didn't experience the heatwave the same way. One format took nearly the entire hit. The other looked fine on the surface. Now your next question should be: should your next location be in a mall? Read our full study for free to find out, or ask Gini.
