Doka

I don't have a hospitality background, so I really needed data to put my mind at ease. Gini helped a lot with that.

Arthur has no background in hospitality. To open Doka, his first coffee shop, he put a large share of his savings into a single site on Rue Rambuteau. He had to convince his bank and his investors, but first he had to convince himself. Counting passers-by in the morning wasn't enough: he needed data that went beyond what he could see for himself. Gini by MyTraffic gave him real numbers to validate his location.

Can you tell us about Doka?

Doka is speciality coffee for everyone. I felt good coffee had become too expensive. My goal was to open an everyday coffee shop: €1.50 for an espresso, €3.50 for a latte, €4 for a matcha.

Good coffee has become something you treat yourself to now and then, a little moment of comfort. I want to turn that occasional treat into a daily habit.

Where does the project stand today?

We've only just opened. It's the very first Doka coffee shop. The goal is to prove the concept works, then open several more fairly quickly.

How did you go about finding your first site?

When I was looking for the first site, I found it hard to make an objective choice. I don't have a hospitality background, so I really needed data to put my mind at ease. Gini helped a lot with that.

Everyone knows Rue Rambuteau. Why did you still need data?

Rue Rambuteau is a great street, everyone knows that. But I put a large part of my savings into this site. Knowing I was in the right place gave me peace of mind.

It also helped me win over the bank and the investors. They could see it was a strong location, with hard numbers to back it up. It wasn't just me itching to get started.

Who did you need to convince first?

In the end, I was the hardest person to convince. I wanted to be sure I was in the right place. I can't afford to mess up the first one.

I'd stand outside in the mornings counting passers-by, but I wanted something more objective than what I could see for myself.
